What is a Review Account?

When you are publishing an app now for the first time or in the future when you start releasing updates to Apple and Google app store, Apple and Google require to be able to access your app so they can look around to check that you are complying with their rules weather its content and age limits, advertising, in-app purchases…

When you set up your app in Apple and Google you get asked these questions so that they can make sure of your age rating and privacy policies cover what your app provides, this keeps them safe and you safe from any laws being broken.

FYI it does not matter how sensitive your customers are and how sensitive you feel your data is, you cannot get around this, if you would like an app on the app store you MUST create this review account.

If you choose for your app to be private whereas your app is hidden and unsearchable in the app store then you do not have to go through this review process. Please see the Public vs Private app lesson for more information.

The good news is it does not have to be an admin account and can be just a subscriber account.

Create Account & Credentials

Create a brand new user account on your site for Apple, Google, and our review team to use to review your app for submission. You only need to fill out a username and email as required if you choose. The username and email can be anything you choose preferably you would want to use an internal email address from your company.

Grant Access to All Content

As we mentioned above you are not required to provide an admin role to this review user but if you are creating this user under any other role then you need to grant this user access to all courses, content, pages, products, and anything that might be visible in the app to any real user. If Apple comes across something within your platform during the review that they cannot access using the account you have submitted they will reject you and you will have to provide access to that item and then they will start the review again… So this will help save you time during release reviews.

Remove All Default Demo Data

NOTE: Before you remove all your demo data make sure you have created all your screenshots from your test app for your App Store Listing as you are allowed to show demo data there.

Buddyboss provides a demo data tool which Imports users, groups, forums, discussions and more, into your site. This is a great tool to help you visualize your setup in the early stages whilst you still have no live users of your own, and saves you time create them yourself.

To add or remove demo data navigate to Buddyboss – Tools – default data

As you can see in the image below you can select the data you want to import then press import or you can select ‘Clear Default Data’ and that’s the button we are looking for in this lesson.

Now if you have more or less ‘default data’ options don’t worry everyones will differ depending on the components you have activated in your Buddyboss – Components settings.

Remove All Test Content

If you have activity posts created by you through user accounts you may have set up manually, then these do not count as demo data and you can have as many of these accounts as you like, also this data will remain if it is mixed in with your demo data. However if you have any Posts, Comments, Forums, Groups, Menus, Discussions that use the word Test’ either change it or remove it, as this will get rejected even if you created the post from a real user login.

To do this quickly and efficiently as thats what were are all about here at Buddyboss, i will show you how to do this for Activity Posts as you may have a lot of them compared to any other area on your site, then you just replicate this process for Groups, Forums etc…

So navigate to; Buddyboss – Activity. Give it a moment to populate and you will have a screen that closely resembles mine..

You will notice in the top right corner you can search for specific words, I have chosen ‘walking’ as I have no posts with the word test in, but you will type in here ‘Test’ then click the search button.

This will then filter all your posts and only show you posts with the word test, if you then want to delete them all then you must select them all using the tick boxes  on the left and then in the Bulk Actions drop down box select Delete Permanently.

Or if you prefer you can hover over the posts activity and you will be given the option to ‘Edit’ each post and go in and remove the word ‘Test’.

Once this is done your review account section is up and running and you can now move on to the next topic.
