Setting Up APNs Auth Key (iOS)
Set up your Apple Push Notification service (APNs) Auth Key so your iOS BuddyBoss App can send push notifications to users.
The APNs Auth Key is a file generated in your Apple Developer account that allows BuddyBoss and Firebase to securely send push notifications to your iOS app. Without it, push notifications won’t work on iPhones or iPads.
To send push notifications on iOS, you need to set up an APNs (Apple Push Notification service) Auth Key. This key connects your Apple Developer account with Firebase and BuddyBoss.
- Log in to your Apple Developer Account.
- Go to Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles.
- In the sidebar, click Keys and then click + to create a new key.
- Enter a descriptive name (e.g., BuddyBoss APNs Key).
- Check the box for Apple Push Notification service (APNs).
- Click Continue, review details, then click Register.
- Download the .p8 key file. You can only download this once — store securely.
- Note the Key ID shown on screen.
- From your account name (top right), copy your Team ID.
- In WordPress Admin, go to BuddyBoss App > Configure > Google Firebase > iOS Settings.
- Upload the .p8 APNs file.
- Enter the Key ID and Team ID, then click Save Changes.
